Or use a straight edge against the slider, backed by a strong light. If you see light, you've got a bend. That method needs to be done at several points. Also check where the fork tubes are in the triple clamps before you loosen the bolts. The fork tubes need to be equal height in the triple clamp.

You loosen the TOP TT bolts and the axle pinch bolts. The bottom TT clamp is what aligns the forks. With both top clamp and axle loose, just give your bars a good wiggle and everything should align, assuming nothing is bent.
